Unique Programs

While there are several youth leadership programs within the metropolitan area what makes this program unique?

  • Bi-state program, multi-county (9 of the 15 months students from the 3 counties meet together)

  • Students learn not only about their own community but about the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan area

  • Breaks down social and racial barriers

  • No cost to student

  • GPA is not an admission criteria

  • School administrators and counselors endorse and support the program because transportation is provided. (Students are picked up and dropped off at school.)

  • School administrators receive monthly program communication and are aware of students' attendance.

  • Transportation provided student-removes barriers prohibiting many students from participating in program.

  • Assist student in career development

  • Scholarship information and support letters provided

  • Work Force Development

  • 100 educational hours received during 15-month program

  • Discussion with local colleges to make this a 3-hour

  • college credit course

  • Program involves individuals from ages 16-24

  • 650 Alumni

  • More than 5,000 volunteer hours contributed through community projects since 1993
